Projekcije videov mladih libanonskih avtorjev
Video Works je rezultat široko zastavljene delavnice video produkcije, ki jo je organiziralo Libanonsko združenje za upodabljajočo umetnost Ashkal Alwan in koordiniral libanonski filmar in video umetnik Ghassan Salhab. Na delavnico so bili povabljeni mladi obetajoči umetniki in kulturniki, katerih estetski pristopi so bistveni del kulturnega ustvarjanja v Libanonu. Ustvarjalci Video Works so Ahmad Ghosien, Ali Cherri, Ali Kays, Anthony Abu Khalifeh, Corine Shawi, Malek Anouti, Rania Rafei, Rami Sabbagh, Rima Kaddissi, Roy Samaha in Ziad Saad.
Estetika in etika stopita skupaj v dejanju intimnega pripovedovanja zgodb.
Projekciji bo sledil pogovor z direktorico Ashkal Alwana Christine Tohme, na katerem bo občinstvo imelo možnost razpravljati o temah, predstavljenih v Video Works, in na splošnejši ravni o problemu mainstreamovskega medijskega poročanja nasproti alternativnim in umetniškim oblikam.
Video Works is the result of an extended video production workshop organized by the Lebanese Association for the Plastic Arts, Ashkal Alwan and coordinated by the Lebanese filmmaker and video artist Ghassan Salhab. The workshop invited young emerging arts and cultural practitioners, whose perspectives and aesthetic approaches are integral components of the cultural fabric in Lebanon. The artists who made Video Works are Ahmad Ghosien, Ali Cherri, Ali Kays, Anthony Abu Khalifeh, Corine Shawi, Malek Anouti, Rania Rafei, Rami Sabbagh, Rima Kaddissi, Roy Samaha and Ziad Saad. Video Works is due to premier in Lebanon as part of the forthcoming Video Avril video festival in April, which will be held in Beirut. The screening of the selection of six Video Works in Stara elektrarna will be the first screening outside of Beirut.
The artistic use of the video medium has an exceptional history in Lebanon. Notwithstanding the fact that video is economically and technically more accessible than film, Lebanese artists are exploring and developing a unique language of video as a means to excavate untold past and present narratives, that render alternative stories to the dominant narrative of media representations. In a world where main stream representations of reality (and history) are fabricated and imposed according to the aggressive ideological criterions of conflicting political affiliations, these personal narratives generated by Lebanese artists are demonstrating a political relevance and power that goes way beyond their expressive content. Aesthetics and ethics are brought together in the act of intimate story telling.
The screening will be accompanied by a talk with the curator Christine Tohme, director of the Beirut based Ashkal Alwan, (www.ashkalalwan.org) and it will be a chance for Ljubljana´s public to respond, discuss and ask questions about the issues concerning the presented works and, on a more general level, the dilemmas of mainstream (journalism) versus alternative (artistic) forms of media production and presentation.
