Predavanje / Lecture Katja Praznik
The lecture will focus on two cases of contemporary dance practices that emerged in the 1960s and 1970s. Analysing the effects and images of dancing bodies in the work of American choreographer Yvonne Rainer and German choreographer Pina Bausch, the author will discuss the concept of performing ideology of a dancing body and the strategies produced by the sensual manifestation of a dancing body.
She will address the questions of how the two choreographers treat and perform the body on stage and how the ideologies of the body when confronted with ways and meanings that are produced by dancing can be read.
In the lecture, the focus will also be on the historical, social and cultural contexts of time, as they are crucially intertwined with the manifestations of artistic practices and the specificity of subjects experience in a certain period. Furthermore, the lecture will also draw a parallel with the work of contemporary Slovene choreographer Maja Delak and her articulations of ideology of the body as seen through the historical effect of analysed dance practices.
