Ulysses je osebna izpoved o doživetju potovanja. Vtisi z njega postanejo zgodbe v gibu pripovedovalca, s pomočjo katerih poslušalec/gledalec skupaj s pripovedovalcem podoživi potovanje. Protagonist je gibalec, pripovedovalec, človek in bog v eni osebi hkrati. Gib med drugim navdihujeta tudi dva teksta, antični Homerjev ter moderni Joyceov Ulysses.

Homerjev Ulysses je nepozabljeni mit, ki nam govori o nas samih, o našem potovanju skozi življenje. Homerjev Ulysses-popotnik išce pot nazaj domov. Dom je še en širok pojem, kot je potovanje samo. Za Ulyssesa dom pomeni mir, ravnotežje, sožitje, svoj prostor, manjkajoči košček, harmonijo s svetom. Ne potuje zaradi dogodivščin, ki jih ima že dovolj. Potuje, da bi našel mir. Pri tem so mu v napoto bogovi, ki predstavljajo sile narave. Sile narave so enačene z božanskim in magičnim, nam nedosegljivim. Ulyssesu hkrati predstavljajo preizkušnje, jemljejo in dajejo mu moč, v stalnem dialogu človeka in narave

Ulysses the performance is a personal tale about the experience of a journey. The impressions from that journey become the story-in-movement told by the story teller, through which the listener/observer, together with the story teller, re-lives the journey. The rolls of a mover, story teller, man and god are joint in one person. The movement is also inspired by two texts, both titled Ulysses – one by Homer, the other one by Joyce.

Ulysses of Homer is the unforgotten mith that tells us about ourselves, of our journey we call life. Homer’s Ulysses, the traveler, is looking for the way home. Home is another metafore of broad meaning, as is journey itself. It signifies peace, balance, harmony, a space of his own, his missing piece. Homer’s Ulysses does not travel to live adventures, which he has enough of. He travels to find peace. While on the way, the gods, signyfying the forces of nature, get in the way. The forces of nature are seen as divine, magical, and unattainable to ourselves. For Ulysses, they are tests of skill & will. They take and they give him streinght, in permanent dialogue of man with nature.

Jurij Konjar , sodobni plesalec, je končal Bruseljsko akademijo za sodobni ples PARTS, kjer je zaključil prvi dvoletni cikel šolanja. Sodeloval je pri kreaciji in dvoletni (2000-2002) svetovni turneji Rien de Rien Sidija Larbija Cherkaouija in Les ballets C de la B in predstavah zavoda En Knap iz Ljubljane ter drugimi. Bil je gostujoči umetnik v Cite International des Arts in v Micadanses v Parizu in v Dance House (Melbourne) .Sodeloval je z Gabrielle Nankivell (AUS) po imenom Ox co. Leta 2005 prejme na festivalu Gibanica (Ljubljana) nagrado publike za najboljšo predstavo Katarza za Začetnike (produkcija Plesni Teater Ljubljana) in nagrado Povodnega Moža za „Ime, ki obeta“. Od leta 2006 je Jurij v Ljubljani, kjer sodeluje s Fičo baletom in Emanatom (obe predstavi premierno uprizorjene v januarju 2007). Prav tako je ustvarjalec “Phraseology of Freestyle” kratke koreografije za for MU Terminal (Budimpešta), ki je bil premierno uprizorjen leta 2007 (Trafo). Zadnje Jurijeve kreacije so bile Hotel na odprtem (2006), katere svetovna premiera je bila v Avstraliji in solo Ulysses, ki je bil premierno uprizorjen v novembra 2007 v Ljubljani.

Jurij Konjar, contemporary dancer, finished the first cycle programme at the renowned dance academy P.A.R.T.S in Brussels. He has worked with a number of dance companies across Europe, notably En Knap and Les Ballets C de la B, whose production of “Rien de Rien” he toured with for two years (2000-2002). He recently held a residency at Micadanse (Paris) and co-directed his new work in residence at Dance House (Melbourne). He worked with Gabrielle Nankivell (AUS) under the name OX co. In 2005, Jurij won the prize for best performance at Moving Cake festival (Ljubljana) and was the recipient of the Merman award as the most promising upcoming choreographer. Since 2006, Jurij has been based in Ljubljana, where he recently worked with Fičo Balet and Emanat (both performances premiered in January 2007 in Ljubljana). He is also the creator of “Phraseology of Freestyle”, a short piece for MU Terminal (Budapest), which premiered at Trafo in April 2007. The latest works includes “Open Space Hotel” (2006), which premiered in Australia and solo project “Ulysses“, premiered in Ljubljana (2007).
