Vabimo vas na predavanje Nicolasa Bourriauda, ki bo v četrtek, 6. 7. 2006 ob 18.00 v Informacijskem centru MG. Gre za tretje predavanje iz serije predavanj, ki jih Moderna galerija pripravlja v okviru aktivnosti povezanih z reorganizacijo svojega strokovnega dela v dve enoti, v muzej moderne ter v muzej sodobne umetnosti, pa tudi zaradi spremenjenih predlogov o namembnosti zgradbe na Metelkovi 22.
Moderna galerija v Ljubljani je leta 1994 namreč dobila v uporabo eno od stavb v kompleksu vojašnice bivše Jugoslovanske armade. V še neobnovljenih prostorih je leta 2000 v času Manifeste v Ljubljani prvič javno predstavila svojo mednarodno zbirko Arteast 2000+, ki v veliki meri predstavlja umetnost vzhodne Evrope, temelječo na avantgardnih tradicijah. To je bila hkrati tudi napoved novega muzeja sodobne umetnosti, ki naj bi se razvil okrog te zbirke.
Pridobitev nove stavbe je narekovala vsebinsko delitev Moderne galerije, in sicer na Muzej moderne umetnosti, ki bi ostal v obstoječi zgradbi na Tomšičevi 14 in Muzej sodobne umetnosti, ki bi bil v eni od stavb nekdanje vojašnice na Metelkovi 22. Oblikovanje posebnega muzeja za sodobno umetnost je narekovalo tudi dejstvo, da Slovenija preprosto nima nobene večje institucije, ki bi bila primerna sodobnim inovativnim praksam in njihovi tradiciji.
V okviru vsebin, ki jih Moderna galerija načrtuje na Metelkovi, želi poudariti predvsem nove načine prezentacije in interpretacije sodobne umetnosti ter večjo interdisciplinarnost.
Nicolas Bourriaud je umetnostni kritik, kurator in teoretik, ustanovitelj in direktor revije Documents (1992-2000) ter gostujoči profesor na IUAV Università di Venezia. Med leti 1999 in 2006 je bil skupaj z Jerômom Sansom direktor Palais de Tokyo v Parizu. Med drugim je bil kustos Unmoving Short Movies v okviru Aperta na 44. beneškem bienalu leta 1990 in sekcije Aperto na 45. beneškem bienalu leta 1993, z J. Sansom sta bila leta 2005 kustosa bienala v Lyonu, istega leta je bil član kuratoskega teama moskovskega bienala. Je avtor številnih knjig, med njimi znamenite Relational Aesthetics (Presses du Reel, 1998).
Iz okviru iste serije vabimo tudi na pogovor med Petrom Pakeschem, direktorjem graškega muzejskega kompleksa Landesmuseum Joanneum in Zdenko Badovinac, direktorico Moderne galerije, ki bo v torek, 11. 7. 2006 v Informacijskem centru Moderne galerije.

These presentations by the renowned art critics, curators are next in the series of talks addressing the relationship between the museum of modern art and the museum of contemporary art. Moderna galerija is organizing these talks as part of its reorganization into two units, a museum of modern art and a museum of contemporary art, and also due to the new and disparate suggestions concerning the possible use of the building at Metelkova 22.
In 1994, Moderna galerija was allotted the use of one of the buildings in the former Yugoslav Army barracks complex at Metelkova. In 2000, during the time of the Ljubljana edition of Manifesta, we used the not yet renovated building for the first public presentation of our Arteast Collection 2000+, which focuses predominantly on Eastern European art based on the traditions of the avant-garde. This presentation was also a harbinger of a new museum of contemporary art that was to evolve on the basis of the collection.
The allotment of a new building also suggested the division of the Moderna galerija into a Museum of Modern Art, which is to remain in the existing Moderna galerija building, and a Museum of Contemporary Art, to be housed in the allotted army barracks building at Metelkova. The founding of a special museum dedicated to contemporary art is further dictated by the fact that there is no major institution in Slovenia that is suitable for contemporary innovative practices and their traditions.
The program we have planned for the museum at Metelkova focuses on the new ways of presenting and interpreting contemporary art as well as on greater interdisciplinarity.
Nicolas Bourriaud is art critic and curator, also adjunct professor at the IUAV University of Venice, Italy, founder and director of the magazine Documents (1992-2000), from 1999 to 2006 director of the Palais de Tokyo, Paris (with Jerome Sans). Among others, he was the curator of the Unmoving Short Movies, Venice Biennale 1990 and Aperto exhibitions at the Venice Biennale 1993, biennale de Lyon (with J. Sans, 2005) and a member of the curatorial team of the Moscow Biennale, 2005. He is author of several books on contemporary art, the best known the Relational Aesthetics (Presses du Reel, 1998).
Also forming part of the series of talks is a conversation between Peter Pakesch, the director of the Graz museum complex Landesmuseum Joanneum, and Zdenka Badovinac, the director of the Moderna galerija, on Tuesday, 11 July 2006, in the Information Center of the Moderna galerija.
